Alice is a Florida native, having been born in Orlando. However, she led a deprived childhood as her father accepted a job in Atlanta and moved the family there just before the opening of Disney World. Thus, she never got to visit the Disney theme park until she was an adult. Nevertheless, living in Atlanta, Alice was excited to attend many Atlanta Braves baseball games. In fact, that’s where she was introduced to the Southern delicacy of boiled peanuts, which she adores.
Alice loved to write from the time she was young. She spent many happy hours sitting in the big branch of the weeping willow tree in her family’s Atlanta home, pen in hand, to create stories. In high school she worked on the school newspaper and served as co-editor her senior year. As an adult, she fanned the flame of her passion for writing. God specifically encouraged her to write through Revelation 1:11, where John was told to write what he saw. She believes the activity is a wonderful outlet for her creativity and humor as an image-bearer of her Heavenly Father, the ultimate Creator.
Jesus has been Alice’s BFF since she was a child. She accepted Him in vacation Bible school, excited to know that He was someone who would stick closer than a brother. However, it wasn’t until adulthood that Alice grasped that Jesus also had to be her Lord and Savior. She now looks to Him for guidance and the revelation of His plans for her life, as He knows best.
Alice attended law school, sensing she could combine her love for writing with the desire to be mentally challenged in her work. God directed her path to handle adoption work, an area she had never even considered. She spent 35 years focusing on domestic, non-relative, infant adoptions. It was a joy for her to place little ones with truly forever families, not just legally but also for eternity with Christian families.
Now retired from active law practice, Alice writes, writes, and writes some more. She has published four books, two of which are devotionals (God Adopted Us First: Faith Lessons From An Adoption Attorney’s Adventures and Sightings: 52 Devotions On Spotting God In Daily Life), and two annotated Agatha Christie mysteries (The Secret of Chimneys and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd). All her books are available on Amazon. Additionally, her work has appeared in compilations such as Chicken Soup for the Soul and Guideposts books.
Alice also pens a weekly blog as Wonder-ing Woman, a faith column, magazine articles (especially for GO!), and numerous devotions. She can be found on Facebook with both a personal page (where she posts a joke daily) and a writer page. Unsurprisingly, after years working as a mouthpiece for clients, Alice can talk. She presents a weekly two-minute devotion, “Murray’s Motivational Moments”, on digital radio station Christian Mix 106.
Teaching is also in Alice’s blood. She especially enjoys making presentations to Christian writers at such events as the Blue Lake Christian Writers Conference, the Florida Christian Writers Conference, and workshops held by the Southern Christian Writers Conference.
Further, for many years, Alice has volunteered to teach with a joint community church ESL ministry, helping non-native English speakers learn the language and about the Lord while they’re at it.
Alice devotes time to nonprofit organizations. She serves as an officer and director of Hope Global Initiative, a Christian organization seeking to minister to the poor in Guatemala. Her passion for adoption remains, so she continues to serve as an officer and director of the Florida Adoption Council, a statewide organization of adoption professionals.
Since God has a sense of humor, He provided Alice with a husband who is an adoptee. She and John are enjoying retirement together with three fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat). Their cat, Mocha, is a polydactyl Hemingway cat (as in Ernest Hemingway), an apropos feline for a writer. Alice is proud of her two adult children and two grandsons. As Mimi, she is privileged to help with transportation for the grandsons’ sporting events and practices and loves to embarrass them by cheering them on loudly at all sports and school functions.
Humor, as may be seen in this bio, is Alice’s voice. She is tickled to have had four jokes (so far) that she submitted to Reader’s Digest published in the magazine’s “Laughter – The Best Medicine” feature. Alice loves to laugh and imagines that Jesus did too while on earth.
