Michelle Ruschman is a writer, speaker, and jewelry artisan living on the beautiful Florida panhandle with her husband, Mark, and their daughter, Marianne. Mark currently works for the Department of Labor and Marianne is a criminology and public health major on the pre-law track at Florida State University.
Michelle accepted Jesus on January 4th, 2009. All she could comprehend in that moment was the Lord speaking into her heart, “Despite your best efforts, I found you.” There was no turning back. Michelle had no idea that saying yes was the beginning of a creative journey that was beyond her imagination, including becoming a Christian writer and artist.
“What I love about writing for GO! Christian Magazine is the hope on every page. Through the people we interview, you can see that God is real, Holy Spirit is moving, and Jesus is present. Believers are active in every part of our community – in business, in our neighborhoods, in government, in the arts – and it’s beautiful. I love having conversations about Jesus, modern day miracles, and seeing how lives are transformed. I know that God is good all the time. My prayer is that our magazine is getting into the hands of those who need it and that the Lord is working in ways beyond our comprehension. It’s exciting to think about!”
Along with her passion for writing, Michelle loves having a marketplace ministry as a jewelry artisan and artist. Creating jewelry lines such as 3 Steps to Healing a Moment, With Love from the Emerald Coast, Breathe, and Hug Nuggets, she is most known for Beautifully Broken, her hand-cut dichroic glass crosses.
“In addition to being a wife and mom, getting to encourage people in every way I can is a joy in my life. Whether it be through writing, giving a message to other Christian entrepreneurs or women’s ministry, or sharing a piece of jewelry, I’m in. I know how much I need the loveof Jesus in my own life, and if I can provide that for someone else, that is a good day. It tickles me to co-create with the Creator. I know my hands don’t work without Him so I’m grateful for every assignment, opportunity, and inspiration.”
Born in Cebu City, Philippines, Michelle immigrated when she was 2 and continues to honor her Filipino heritage through cooking Filipino food, as well as making jewelry using pyrography to burn baybayin script, the first writing system of the Philippines, into native wooden beads. Her latest creation, The Christian Prayer Necklace, is also made of native Philippine wood beads such as bayong, nangka, rosewood, and kamagong. They also features olive wood crosses made in the United States and Jerusalem.
“I can sometimes get distracted during prayer time. I needed something to help me stay focused and be in a state of gratitude, but also be receptive to what Holy Spirit was prompting me to pray for. it turns out, I’m not the only one so I made a brochure to share the suggested process. It’s been really helpful in having a more dynamic prayer life.”
As a mixed media artist, Michelle has been a featured artist in the Niceville Library. She has also had work displayed in the Pensacola Museum of Art, including 3:33, Even Eden Needs the Rain, and Jellyfish Jam.
